What’s your earliest tech-related memory?
There was a racing game on Amiga which would ask you to change the floppy disk in the middle of a race!
Describe your day-to-day routine, if you have one.
I just wake up and get to work! But after work, I like to take a ten minute break before I go back to work – building my house.
People who work with tech can be superstitious. Do you have a favourite computer superstition or ritual that probably doesn’t work – but you still do it anyway?
Swearing at my computer. Although it doesn’t seem to work!
Who is your professional hero?
Elon Musk – one of the super wealthy who are doing something with their money to benefit society and improve technology.
How did you end up working at Cleverbit?
I wanted to find a company to work at where people were friendly and you could build lasting relationships, and Cleverbit fit the bill. They have a family environment that – although it has grown over time – still maintains the friendly vibe.
Is there a project that you’ve worked on at Cleverbit that really stood out to you for whatever reason?
We’ve been working with a client in the UK, which is a super varied project with a lot of interesting challenges; it’s not just straight coding, you have to reason and think through the problem.
What’s the office culture like at Cleverbit?
It’s very much a family; one of the things that really matters to me is that we are in constant contact with our director. With hardly any hierarchy we only have one management layer and that’s all. I also really like the fact that when you have a problem, you can keep working at it until it’s solved – it’s a super focused team environment.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Theoretical physics!
